Film Students Abroad: Sarah Reynolds

image

Upon arriving in Scotland in August 2013, junior Film & Media Studies minor, Sarah Reynolds, immediately took advantage of the many clubs offered by St. Andrew’s College. She joined the film society, where she met students from around the world who shared her interest and enjoyed the unique experience of watching familiar films from a new perspective. “I especially liked the difference in the audience since I was watching with mostly English or Scottish students. A movie like Drive is an American film, so I was hyper aware of the irony of watching a film like that in a foreign place.” The beautiful Scottish countryside also offered a special opportunity to visit historical landmarks in the film industry, as a viewing of the James Bond movie Skyfall prompted a trip to the Scottish highlands where the movie was filmed. When speaking about her overall abroad experience, Sarah found that she “grew very fond of the land, culture, and people there.”
